Meet Our Founder:

Joseph Mbwaga ("Black Mzungu")

Joseph Mbwaga’s mission began not in a boardroom, but on the streets. At just 15 years old, after years of neglect, Joseph left his home in Igamba in search of a future. His journey was one of extreme hardship—searching for food in trash piles and sleeping under trees—until he finally arrived in Kibaha clinging to the top of a livestock transport train.

A Gift That Opened Doors

In Kibaha, Joseph leaned on his natural gift for music. He secured a job as a church pianist, trading his talents for a place to sleep on the church pews. It was during a Sunday service that a chance encounter with a generous Australian traveler changed his life forever.

Recognizing Joseph’s potential, this stranger took him under his wing and sponsored his secondary education. Joseph didn't let the opportunity go to waste; he mastered the English language and taught himself the complexities of computer repair.

From Success to Service

Joseph went on to build a successful life, opening an internet cafe and computer repair center in Kibaha, where he now lives with his wife and children. However, success wasn't his final destination.

Feeling a deep calling to give back, Joseph returned to his roots in Igamba. He founded the Help the Orphans Foundation (now the PWM Family Organization) to lift others up, just as he had been lifted.

A Vision for the Future

Today, Joseph’s goal is to expand this sanctuary to accommodate every child facing the same desperate situation he once did. He knows firsthand that even a small act of kindness can change the trajectory of a life.

"Asante Sana na Mungu Akubariki!"

(Thank you and God bless you!)
